The President of the I.C.M.G. Mr. Amar Addadi decided to cancel the meeting of the Executive Committee, scheduled to take place from 12 to 14 April 2010 in Volos. The decision was motivated by the fact that, despite the repeated warnings towards the President of the Hellenic NOC and the Mayor of Volos, signatories of the Contract on the Mediterranean Games and the discussions held with the competent ministers of the Greek government, no measure was taken for the setting up of the Organizing Committee and the effective launch of the preparation procedure for the Volos Games. It has been already 29 months since the selection of Volos as host city of the 17th Mediterranean Games and the preparation has not started yet. President Addadi had initially set 21 March as deadline, in order to receive tangible proof regarding the appointment and the installation of the Organizing Committee, as well as the practical measures related to the travel arrangements and the participation of the I.C.M.G. members in the meeting of Volos. This deadline was exceeded without having received replies from the concerned authorities to the pressing injunctions of the I.C.M.G., and with no justification for this. For that reason, after having already cancelled the visit of the I.C.M.G. Coordination Commission scheduled for the beginning of March, it was now decided to cancel as well the Executive Committee meeting in Volos from 12 to 14 April. An official notice was communicated by the I.C.M.G. to the Greek part, in application of the clause 42 of the contract, which stipulates a deadline of 60 days in order to remedy all the violations of the contract; in the absence of replies or in case these are judged unsatisfactory, the contract will be considered as terminated de facto. |
