The ICMG Executive Committee held an extraordinary meeting on 27 May in Malta in order to study the developments related to the 2013 Mediterranean Games in Volos. Following the written confirmation of Mr. Bitsaxis, Secretary General of Sport, regarding the commitment undertaken by the Greek government to provide the necessary funds for the financing of the Organizing Committee and of the sports venues, after review and rationalisation of the total budget of the Games but always with a view to protect their quality, the E.C. decided to give the organisers the chance to carry out the project of preparation, provided however that a discussion on this issue is held with high government authorities. For that reason, the Executive Committee requested a meeting within the month of June with high-ranking government officials, in order to obtain from them the confirmation of their true intention to support the realisation of the Games.
