The French handball players were beaten by Norway 22 to 20, this Sunday, December 20 in the final of the Euro-2020 in Herning in Denmark, and cede their continental crown to the Scandinavians, who had not won a major title since Euro-2016.

The French girls return from Denmark with the silver medal around their necks, their fifth international podium in six competitions since the Rio Olympics in 2016. The Tournament MVP award went to France’s Estelle Nze-Minko for her great performances in Denmark.

Croatia won the bronze medal after a memorable 25-19 victory over Denmark. It is Croatia’s first ever medal at a major tournament. Captain Katarina Jezić with five goals was named player of the match.

Croatia has automatically qualified for the World Women’s Handball Championship in Spain next year. Croatia last competed in the world women’s handball championships back in 2011. Their best showing was in Germany in 1994 when they finished fifth.
